DIVISION 2 - WOMENS MATCH REPORTS.

Round 8 - Berwick/Springvale 8 lost to Sandringham 20.

Sandringham batted much better than we did - 17 hits compared to 7 for us, and we made 6 errors on the field, leading to 10 of their runs being unearned. By the same token, only 3 of our 8 runs were earned!
Deb Bryant was our starting pitcher. She threw 3 innings, and we let her down with our fielding. Jade took over for the last 2 and Sandy scored 7 (3 unearned, again). Cass caught the 2 innings that Jade threw, and did a really good job.
All in all, I think we were all glad when time and game was called, although we had redeemed ourselves a little by scoring 6 in the last dig.

Next week we're at Port Melbourne.

Round 6 - Berwick/Springvale 2 lost to Werribee 11.

Werribee were too good for us, and we lost 11-2. We had 4 hits - a double from Houghie, 2 singles from Jade, and another single from Leanne. Well done, you three. Rosa and Houghie each batted in one of our runs. Werribee scored seven runs in the first dig off lots of walks. The next five digs were pitched by Gabby, Hightower, and Jade, and they gave up only another four runs, and struck four out. Werribee had Emma Lowe D.P.-ing, and she struck out eight of us. Despite the poor result, we all played well under very hot conditions.

Round 5 - Berwick/Springvale 8 drew with Malvern 8.

It was a great game by all. Unfortunately, it was side away in the second dig, because we'd scored 7 runs. We had bases loaded, and only one out! However, that's the rule, and it probably cost us the win. Jacinda pitched really well for us, striking out at least ten, and walking only one.

Next week, we're at home to Werribee. See you there.

Round 4 - Berwick/Springvale 7 lost to Springvale 14.

Springvale were better hitters on the day, although Steph hit a nice double for us. We had a good relay from Gab at centre to Steph, then on to Rosa who made the out at the plate. Deb Bryant started pitching for us. She struck out half a dozen batters, which was a great effort, and caught a pop-up. In the last dig, Jade had a go at pitching and did a great job.

Next week, we're at Malvern at 1.00pm.

Round 3 - Bye.

Round 2 - Berwick/Springvale 12 def. Pt. Melb. 2.

Playing Port Melbourne this week, and what a game it was.  With the help of Shae Lillywhite pitching for us this week, helped us alot.  With Shae striking out 9 batters and with the help of the field, we only kept Port Melbourne to 2 runs for the game. Great hitting this week from Tracey McLardy with 3 hits all to the outfield, also getting an RBI, also Deb Barnett, getting a hit and an RBI, 2 RBI's from Gabby Kovess, Jade Geaves, and single RBI's from Dallas Lydall (welcome to the team Dallas), and also an RBI from Deb Bryant.  Great catching from Janine this week also. Great hitting from the women this week, it was a very convincing win.  12 to 2. Well done Ladies, we have a bye next week, but we have the $1000 Draw, hope to see you all at that.  If you don't have your tickets call Gill on 0412 553 951.

So our next game is @ home against Springvale.

Hope to see you all there!!!

Round 1 - Berwick/Springvale 2 lost to Sandringham 16.

A great start to the women's season, with our 1st game played at Sandringham.  What a great start from our new players that have never played before. Pitching for us was Deb Bryant, who pitched a great game as usual.  Great fielding from Tracey McLardy, with 2 catches in the out field.  A great play from Deb Barnett at 2nd base.  A few plays and a catch from Gill Gavin at short stop.  Well played at 3rd base from Margaret Gyton, almost getting a double play.  Well done to Leanne Shane on 1st base.  Great fielding from Jolene O'Halloran and Stef Maher in the outfield.  Coming on later in the game was Jade Geaves playing 2nd base and Gabby playing outfield.  Catching all game was Janine Cavanagh. Great hitting from all the team today too.  Margaret hitting a 2 base hit., Tracey and Leanne both getting a safe hit.  RBI from Gill and Tracey.  Overall every one got bat on ball and for their first game that is a bonus. We lost the game 15 to 2 but it was not from us making errors, just a lucky innings from Sandringham, hitting the ball in the right spots. Highlight of the game was from Stef, never played baseball in her life, but has an arm on her like a rocket, had a go at pitching and she was outstanding, for someone that has no idea what they are doing, to come in and pitch like that was amazing.  Getting herself 3 K's in 1 innings.  That is what baseball is all about and that is why people love the game. Well done Stef., and well done team.

Next week we are at home, at 1.00pm.

See you all there.
