U16 METRO WHITE - MATCH REPORTS.

Round 7 - Wash-out.

Round 6 - Berwick White 8 def. Malvern 2.

We started the game letting in 2 runs, before Tim found his straps and struck out 3. Up at bat Cameron got on through a walk as did Matthew and Daniel and with a good hit to Joel and a mighty triple by Slamming Sam we ended the first with 3 runs and up by one. In the 2 nd Tim was in control with another 2 strikeouts, then a hit……but wait no…who is that new face in rightfield…a throw to first and take that…. the 3 rd out of the innings to Jamanye…welcome to Berwick Baseball, what an entrance!!! At bat we had a quiet innings with the only hit to Cameron and no runs. In the third Tim decided to make things interesting by loading the bases then promptly striking out three in a row…well supported by Matthew catching and keeping things under control. We went up to bat and with hits to Matthew and Tim and a good double to Daniel another 2 runs went on the scoreboard for a 5 – 2 lead.

In the 4 th after letting on the first 2 batters, we managed to get the next 3 out in a row, with the highlight being another strikeout to Tim and a great throw by Matthew to prevent a steal assisted by a good tag by Joel. At bat we did not trouble the scorers and the highlight was a double to Cameron. Daniel came on to relieve Tim and with great composure shut them down with a strikeout and assisted by another great throw from Matthew to 2 nd base and the stealing runner was promptly tagged out by Scott! With about 15 mins left on the clock we needed to bat the game out….and that's exactly what we did! Sam started with a hit and was followed by Daniel with another scoring Sam after 2 steals left him on third. We did not stop there…Corey got on base with another hit to centrefield and then Jamayne came up with his first hit in U16. We continued the onslaught with Cameron hitting to leftfield and scoring Corey, promptly followed by Scott gaining an infield hit to score Jamayne.

Time and game with a good 8-3 win. The highlight being a great job again by all the team with every player getting a hit and Tim on the mound with 9 strikeouts. Cameron had a day out with 3 hits, Joel, Daniel and Sam with 2 hits and singles to Corey, Jamayne, Scott, Matthew and Tim. Boy's great team effort best of the season so far. This week let's work on keeping those hits flat with line shots. Great Effort!!

Round 5 - Berwick White 10 def. UFTG 3.

We headed down to Upwey with the weather for once being ideal and this brought out the best in the boys, even with only 8 players!

With Tim starting on the mound for the first time, the first 3 innings were tight as a drum with neither side giving an inch and Tim with 5 strikeouts. Then in the fourth the teams bats went on a rampage scoring 6 runs to take a grip of the game. The highlight being a clutch hit from Cameron with the blank coming up for the 3 rd out and 2 runners on base, he came up with a hit to bring home a runner. Hitting another 4 runs in the 6 th we went ahead further with doubles to Joel and Scott. Tim was relieved on the mound by Scott who did well to shut out the game giving us a win 10-3. A great team effort with everyone getting either a hit or Walk to get on base with only 8 players.

A great job by Matthew gaining 4 walks for the game from 4 at bats, Tim on the mound and with 3 hits, 2 hits to Cameron and Daniel and one each to Joel and Scott. Well done!!!

Round 4 - Berwick White 0 lost to Bonbeach/Sandringham 16.

We headed down to our home ground in Dandenong with the promise of a sunny 26 degree day and hoping for a good game.

Unfortunately on both accounts we fell short….the day started with spitting rain and it never really stopped which made it tough all round. We started off in the field and Matthew could not quite find his range and Bon Beach/Sandringham through a few hits and walks started with 7 runs! We could not find form with the bats and were put down in order in the first dig! In the second Matthew started off on fire striking out the first 2 batters, then we let ourselves down a little and let 2 runs in. At bat Joel got on via a wild throw and after some good watching by Michael he followed up with a walk, however we were then shut down without a run being scored.

In the third Cameron took to the mound for the first time and found out that the pitching caper is not an easy one and could not find the strike zone and was relieved by Sam. Through all this they managed to score 7 runs. At bat Nick and Corey led the charge gaining walks then Tim came up and had our only hit of the day! However they managed to shut us down from there without a run being scored. Sam continued to pitch in the top of the 4 th until time was called and the scores reverted back to 16-0.

Well not our best day however Cameron and Sam got the experience on the mound and Scott behind the plate. Thanks also to Nick for filling in for us and to Eric and the other parents who got the mound in order after a late start…much appreciated.

Let's make amends next week boys and put this one down to experience!

Round 3 - Berwick White 3 lost to Doncaster 16.

Well on a showery day we made the long haul to Doncaster full of promise and with a full team of 9 for the first time this year!

The first innings got off to a shaky start, other than a huge bomb from Slamming Samuel with a triple! Our first innings in the field saw us get off to a mixed start with 3 strikeouts from Matthew sprinkled in between 3 runs. The next two at bats we were almost put down in order on strikeouts, via some great pitching from Doncaster, other than a great 8 pitch walk from Cameron. Whilst in the field we conceded 11 runs keeping Michael, Scott and Joel on their toes in the outfield and unfortunately the game slipped away from us, through some good hits from the Doncaster batters and some fielding errors which we can put down to experience. Through this Matthew still managed to get a couple of strikeouts, and with a couple of put outs from Cameron and almost a double play to Corey and Cameron we still had some highlights. Heading into the 4 th innings we found some voice and the bats started to fire with Hits to Samuel and Cameron, good doubles to Joel and Tim, with Joel and Cameron getting RBI's and bringing home our first 2 runs of the game. In the field we let in 2 unearned runs and Matthew handed over the mound to Daniel due to reaching his pitch count, and Daniel did well to finish the innings in his short stint on the mound. In the fifth and last at bat we had 2 hits to Daniel and Corey with Daniel gaining an RBI and bringing Corey home for our 3 rd run of the game. Time was called and we went down 16-3 for our first loss for the season. As we discussed this was the first time we have been tested with as good a pitcher as we will face this season….so head's up boys and remember, we get better by learning from each innings and each game! Keep working on the little things at training on Tuesday and we will continue to improve!

Round 2 - Berwick White def. Doncaster by Forfeit.

This week we ventured down to Dandenong which will be our Home Ground for most of the season. By game time we had only 7 players, although as Doncaster could only manage 5 players, we got the win by Forfeit! So we go into next week with 2 wins from our first two games which is a good start, keep it going Boys!

Both teams decided to make the most of the situation and we had a shortened game to get some solid practice in. Some highlights were our very keen would be pitcher Scott making his debut this season on the mound! Scott threw more strikes than balls and had 2 batters struck out, Scott was replaced by Sam who threw one innings and also got a strike out, well done to both of you! In the field we had Tim behind the plate who did a good job all day, Matthew and Sam at Short Stop and Third who both made some good plays and held some good fly balls, and were well assisted by Joel at first base. Daniel and Corey were able to take it easy as no one wanted to hit to them today! Thanks to Daniel for coming along as he was not 100%, with low numbers that was a great help!! With the bat we had 11 hits and 10 walks which follows on from last week's good effort with the bat…a good team effort again! We had 3 hits to Scott and Tim and two long bomb double's from Tim both which almost went all the way, 2 hits to Matthew and Sam including doubles to both of them and singles to Joel and Corey!

Let's work on those things we highlighted after the game and don't forget to get those questions in, well done team!

Round 1 - Berwick White 15 def. Berwick Blue 5.

The season got underway between the 2 Berwick Metro sides in good spirits and low on numbers with both teams only fielding 7 players. In good spirits we decided to let the batting side field two fielders in the outfield, so all players were kept on their toes all throughout the game.

We started the game on a quiet note with only Sam making it on base in the first, via a walk and were retired without scoring. We took to the field with Matthew on the mound and with 2 strikeouts and a good play by Joel at 2 nd , we still managed to give away 2 hits and they scored 1 run. In the second Cameron led the charge with a good double to rightfield and with a walk to Corey and hits to Daniel and Matthew we took the lead 2 to 1, this was maintained when our Gun Pitcher, Matthew struck out 3 in order!

The 3 rd saw us score 6 runs through some good heads up running and walks' to Joel and Matthew, a hit to Cameron and 2 hits to Scott including a huge double over centrefield's head. When we took to the field we let in 3 runs through a little slip up in the field and after 2 strikeouts to Matthew we quickly wrapped things up. In the 4 th and final innings the bats went wild, with hits to Matthew, Sam, Cameron and 2 hits to Joel and supported by walks to Daniel, Corey and Matthew we scored 7 runs. When we took the field we changed fielding positions and Daniel took the mound and by the end was in control and finding the spot and only allowing one run!

Well done boys a really good team effort with everyone contributing to the 15-5 win. Great job on the mound by Matthew with 7 strikeouts and backed up by Daniel, well done to Cameron with 3 hits, Scott, Joel and Matthew with 2 hits and singles to Sam and Daniel…..
