DIVISION 2 - 2nds MATCH REPORTS.

Round 6 - Berwick 5 def. Newport 3.

The 2's travelled down to the graveyard this week to Vs the ex Div 1 Rams, who are also young and builiding up to Div 1.

Was a good challenge and we answered with 4 runs in the first two innings.

Matt Chilcott started on the hill and went the distance throwing a great game with Craig Barnett behind the dish.

Was tough with some injuries to Mally O'Halloran (Ligament damage in ankle 6-8 weeks) and a slight fracture in Andy Hemmes' thumb.

We toughed it out with myself and Frosty coming in to get the job done on the road winning 5-3 in the end.
Great game defensively to support Chilly by the young Cougars, our outfield is strong with Cain Hillier at centre field throwing out runners and our infield is sharp with players still to come in.

Keep on working boys and success will follow.

Look forward to our Saturday game this week vs Mulgrave.

Remember your movie tickets, if you dont have the fundraising form see me!

Round 5 - Berwick 6 def. Ormond / Glenhuntley 5.

First of all I would like to apologise for not writing up for previous weeks. As I mentioned to the 2nds team at the beginning I am about development first and winning slightly second. I have been focusing on setting up this team (and club with club coach Wayne “Mouse” Porter) to ensure this long term goal of our club being the number one platform in development in Baseball Victoria for players to succeed.

So now after a five rounds in the season I can now start to share the team’s game day results.

Round 5 vs. Ormond Glenhuntly

Martin Kennedy started on the hill for the Cougars who are 3-1 coming in to this game. Marty threw 5 2/3 innings for 5 runs; Ormond broke it open to 5-1 in the fifth with a 3 run home run. James Kennedy relieved that inning to get the third out giving the young Cougars a challenge after 4 innings and only two hits so far in the game going in to the bottom fifth. Then it got interesting!

Young catcher Daniel Wood led off the inning with a single to get our third hit. But we could not score him.

Top 6 th James Kennedy gets back to work with two ground balls and a fly ball to Shaun Surtees at second base.

Bottom 6 th and no.3 hitter and centre fielder Cain Hillier hits a leadoff triple to get us going. James Jackson then hit a SAC FLY to get Cain in to make it 5-2.

Top 7 th Jimmy K gets back to work and gets it done in 3 hitters with two ground outs and a line out to right fielder Malachite O’Halloran.

Bottom 7 th and Cougars had 3 outs to score 4 runs to win. Ormond’s Pitcher had kept us to four hits all game in 6 innings.

8, 9, 1 in our order and two out and young lead off Mally gets on base forcing an error at second base and reaches second on the throw. Shaun then steps up and hits a 2-0 fastball hard and scores Mally 5-3. Shaun advances to second on a wild pitch, Cain then singles to right field off 2-2 and scores Shaun, Cain also advances to second on a fumble from right field. 5-4. James Jackson then hits a slow ground ball to shortstop, he beats it out and in the drama Cain scores and ties the game 5 ALL.

James Jackson then steals second base. 2 out and 1-1 on myself, I thought of what I had said to the team and put in to practice my own motivation. I hit a ground ball up the middle and with big Jimmy’s wheels he scored and we won on WALK OFF fashion.

Two out and four consecutive hits and an error to start to win the ball game. Well done all players on achieving a great result but also fighting for every out and learning throughout the game to keep improving in your at bats. You should never forget what we did as a team this game. If you want it bad enough it will happen. Well done Marty on another great start, Fantastic scoreless relief from young James Kennedy keeping the team in the game. A great game for Daniel Wood to make his debut! Keep at it boys, one game at a time, one inning at a time, one out at a time, one pitch at a time. Well done, keep developing and improving and you will keep getting results.
